No, Ray Fisher Isn't Quitting As DC's Cyborg

No, Ray Fisher Isn't Quitting As DC's Cyborg

For over a year now, Warner Bros' DC film universe has been plagued with the question of whether or not Ben Affleck would return as Bruce Wayne in Matt Reeves' Batman film, with rumors pointing to the actor leaving the role. That remains an open question, but a new rumor going around claimed another Justice League actor would depart DC's cinematic universe: Ray Fisher. Fortunately this rumor has been cleared up right away. Ray Fisher has confirmed that he isn't quitting as DC's big screen Cyborg, saying:

I don't usually engage the rumor-mill, but it's recent turn may be worth a little grist: I am NOT, nor do I have ANY intention of, leaving Cyborg. Furthermore, if/when the time comes for me to hangup my all-too-revealing mocap onesie, you will hear it from me directly. #BORGLIFE

There you have it, Ray Fisher is not quitting as Cyborg. It was cool of him to take to Twitter to address this rumor right away before it got out of hand. It's better to just nip it in the bud and move on. Fisher even included the hashtag "#BORGLIFE," seemingly letting fans know that he is all in on the character as long as there is a place for him in DC's films. And should anything change, he indicated he will be sure to let the fans know. So until that happens, there is no cause for concern.

The genesis of this rumor seems to have been less one specific thing and more a confluence of factors that people thought pointed to Cyborg and Ray Fisher's exit. For one thing, the Cyborg solo movie was initially scheduled for a 2020 release date, but given the various shakeups at DC and the fact that we haven't heard much on that film in a while, some people presume that it isn't going to happen. Also, it sounds like Cyborg originally had a bigger part in Justice League that may have set up his solo outing. Another factor is that the DC Universe streaming service series Doom Patrol recently cast Joivan Wade as Cyborg. That in and of itself is no big deal since DC's film and television universes are independent, but there is reason to believe that DC doesn't want to do as much double dipping in the film and TV universes, as evidenced by Arrow supposedly being no longer allowed to use Deathstroke.

You can see how some of this might lead people to believe that Ray Fisher's Cyborg is on his way out, but there is no real reason to think that yet, and we should take Ray Fisher at his word. Justice League actor Joe Morton has even suggested that some of the deleted Cyborg scenes from that film will contribute to the character's solo outing. Even if the Cyborg movie gets kicked down the road a ways or is cancelled entirely, that doesn't mean that the character will be gone from the DCEU. Plenty of MCU characters don't have solo films and still exist and prove a valuable part of that universe. Ray Fisher's Cyborg would be a great supporting player opposite someone like Flash.

The DCEU is still finding its footing and it's entirely possible that even it doesn't know exactly what the plan for Cyborg is yet. But until we hear otherwise, it looks like Ray Fisher is still your big screen Victor Stone. Stay tuned to CinemaBlend and we'll keep you updated on all the latest from the DCEU, and you can check out the next film in the franchise, Aquaman, in theaters on December 21.

Jurassic World Box Office: Fallen Kingdom Repeats During A Mediocre Weekend

Jurassic World Box Office: Fallen Kingdom Repeats During A Mediocre Weekend

Given that J.A. Bayona's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom opened to larger-than-expected numbers and had only modest competition this week, it should come to the surprise of nobody that it is once again number one at the box office. What's unfortunate is that the numbers won't exactly blow anyone away - and that pretty much goes for every movie on the board. Check out the full Top 10 below, and join me after for analysis.

After making just short of $150 million in its opening weekend, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom fell nearly 60 percent in week two - which is not a fall-off number that Universal Pictures will be super happy with. That being said, everything is relative, because the reality is that the movie is already one of the biggest blockbusters released so far in 2018. Its weekend haul has once again allowed it to vault up the charts, as its $264.8 million total domestically is enough to make it the fifth most successful release since the beginning of January. That being said, it's hard to say how high it will climb given that it is still behind monster hits like Black Panther ($699.8 million), Avengers: Infinity War ($672.5 million), Incredibles 2 ($439.7 million) and Deadpool 2 ($310.4 million).

Clearly Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is doing well here at home, but the real story is its performance abroad. The movie was released a few weeks early into some international markets, and it has been making some crazy money. To date the domestic total makes up less than 30 percent of the whole, as worldwide it has thus far made $932.4 million. It is guaranteed to become the third billion dollar hit of 2018 - which is pretty amazing by itself. To listen to a SPOILER-FILLED conversation about Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, give this week's episode of ReelBlend a spin!

Among the newcomers it was Stefano Sollima Sicario: Day of the Soldado that made the most money, though it wasn't quite enough to face off against Hollywood's two most recent blockbusters. It had to settle for third place, making over $20 million less than Brad Bird's Incredibles 2, but the performance at the very least does look favorable when compared to the original Sicario. Despite having rising star Denis Villeneuve at the helm and a cast including Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin, and Benicio Del Toro, the first movie trickled into theaters in fall 2015, and while never being released in more than 2,620 theaters at a time it never made more than $12.1 million in a weekend or rose above third place. The sequel, released by Sony Pictures, is on a better pace, and it will be interesting to see where it ends up by the time it's done with its theatrical run.

Overall, the real success story may be the performances by Charles Stone III's Uncle Drew and Rajkumar Hirani's Sanju. The former, a comedy starring a crew of professional basketball players in old age makeup, may have landed fourth place, but it did so earning better reviews than Sicario: Day of the Soldado and earned an "A" from CinemaScore. As for the latter, the Bollywood hit was only in limited release over the weekend - just over 350 theaters - but it still landed eighth place with an average of over $7000 per theater.

Next week we are once again back to big releases, as two big franchises will be going head to head. Peyton Reed's Ant-Man & The Wasp is the Marvel Cinematic Universe's first chapter since Avengers: Infinity War, and audiences will get to watch the world go to hell with Gerard McMurray's prequel The First Purge. Come back next Sunday to see how these new titles shake up the Top 10.

See The Best Look At Pepper Potts Avengers: Endgame Transformation

Spoilers ahead for Avengers: Endgame

It's been two weeks since Avengers: Endgame hit theaters, and the events of the massive blockbuster are still being felt by moviegoers. The Russo Brothers exceeded all expectations, and put together a narrative that was deeply connected to the first 21 movies of the shared universe. Tons of characters were serviced throughout the course of the movie, especially during the final battle against Thanos and his forces.

When all seemed bleak and Captain America was getting beat down by Thanos, the fallen characters and various other Avengers allies appeared in the rubble of the facility, and turned the tides against the Mad Titan's army. This includes Gwyneth Paltrow's Pepper Potts, who made her debut in the very first MCU movie. Pepper suited up in her own armor for the battle, taking on the comic book mantle of Rescue. And now we can see our clearest look at the armor itself, thanks to Endgame concept art. Check it out.

I mean, how cool is that? Pepper's ascension to Rescue has been a long time coming, as she's previously worn Tony's Iron Man suit, and has engaged in a few battles throughout her tenure in the MCU. And that journey really paid off in Avengers: Endgame, as Pepper's time as an official combatant was truly epic.

Pepper Potts has a supporting role in Avengers: Endgame, popping up early in the film's runtime, watching in awe as Captain Marvel arrives on Earth with Tony and Nebula in tow. Throughout the film, she mostly stays at Tony's side, helping him get healthy in the Avengers Facility and eventually becoming a mother after the time jump.

The Rescue armor was teased shortly after the blockbuster's time jump, which introduced Tony and Pepper's daughter Morgan. Upon finding his daughter in a tent outside their new home, and she wearing the Rescue helmet. Tony jokes that Pepper never wears anything he gets her, an exchange that not-so-subtly set up Pepper's eventual fate during Endgame's third act.

Pepper Potts did some great work as Rescue in the final Avengers: Endgame battle, serving as both an attacker and protector of her fellow good guys. She also participated in the epic all-female moment, which saw the MCU's femme fatales team up to battle Thanos' forces. Pepper had already killed two Iron Man villains, so watching her become a genuine hero was massively satisfying.

Related: The 25 Most Emotional Moments In Avengers: Endgame

In addition to her work as Rescue, Pepper Potts helped to move Tony Stark's narrative forward a few times throughout the course of Avengers: Endgame's runtime. For instance, she helped change Tony's mind about time travel. And most heartbreakingly, she mourned her husband in front of our eyes after he sacrificed his life to snap his fingers and destroy Thanos forever. While Gwyneth Paltrow has been part-time in the MCU in recent years, it was great to see her get so much screen time in Endgame.

Avengers: Endgame is in theaters now. Be sure to check out our 2019 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
