M. Night Shyamalans Glass Trailer Is Creepy And Epic
At first, M. Night Shyamalan's Split looked like it would just be another addition to the director's resume, but the 2016 horror movie's final scene revealed that this story was set in the same universe as Shymalan's 2000 movie, Unbreakable. After Split performed excellently critically and commercially, a sequel was ordered that also doubles as the long-awaited follow-up to Unbreakable. Titled Glass, the 2019 movie will see Bruce Willis' David Dunn, Samuel L. Jackson's Elijah Price, a.k.a. Mr. Glass, and James McCoy's Kevin Wendell Crumb crossing paths, and following the release of the poster and teaser videos, the first Glass trailer has finally been released. Check it out, below!
Last year, it was announced that American Horror Story star Sarah Paulson was joining the cast of Glass as Dr. Ellie Stapler, and as we see in the first Glass trailer, she's the main connective thread between the Unbreakable and Split players. Stapler is a psychiatrist who specializes in individuals who believe that they are superheroes. In a sense, that's true for our trip. David Dunn has his strength, Kevin Wendell Crumb has his numerous personalities (The Beast being the most dangerous of them), and while Elijah Price's bones are extremely fragile, he boasts an impressive IQ. Unfortunately for David, who somehow ends up in the same psychiatric hospital as Kevin and Wendell, they're about to team up. This may be the "real world" we're dealing with in Glass rather than a comic book, but there's no question that David will need to stop Kevin and Elijah before the body count starts rising.
Glass' cast also includes Anya Taylor-Joy reprising Casey Cooke, the girl who was kidnapped by Kevin in Split, but survived her encounter with The Beast; Spencer Treat Clark reprising Joseph Dunn, David Dunn's admiring son; and Charlene Woodard reprising Mrs. Price, Elijah Price's mother. While Unbreakable was a thriller and Split rested firmly in the horror realm, Glass is balancing a fine line between the two genres. No doubt fans of Split are glad to see more of Kevin Wendell Crumb and his other personalities causing trouble, but because it's been nearly two decades since Unbreakable screened in theaters, no doubt fans of that movie are ecstatic to see that movie's mythology explored further. The reputation of superhero movies has improved a lot since Unbreakable's release, and while it wouldn't be fair to compare Glass to the likes of what Marvel and DC churn out, this movie looks like it will be an especially unique entry to the genre, on top of those existing horror and thriller elements.
