One Way Marvel's Kevin Feige Was Inspired By Star Wars

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has become a massive franchise, one that rivals Star Wars in global popularity. It turns out, that the galaxy far, far away, inspired the Marvel Studios head in one major way. Kevin Feige admits he stole Marvel's current logo directly from Star Wars. I'll tell you a secret: we have a really cool logo. It says Marvel Studios: The First Ten Years. That was directly ripped off of my very positive memories of 1987 and Star Wars: The First Ten Years. There wasn't much --- entering the 'Dark Times', as collectors call it --- when there wasn't a whole lot of stuff... But Lucasfilm acknowledged the tenth anniversary, and they called it it 'The First Ten Years', which got me excited as a fan to think 'Well, there'll be more! Must be the first of many!' And it took many years to fulfill that. But as we were saying, 'Let's celebrate our tenth anniversary!', and I was trying to come up with a tagline, I just stole from the Star Wars anniversary.

If you're going to steal, steal from the greats, right? That's apparently what Kevin Feige decided when Marvel wanted to celebrate their 10-year anniversary of making movies. He tells The Star Wars Show how the celebration of the 10th anniversary of Star Wars got him really excited back in 1987 because the claim that it was the "first 10 years," strongly implied that there would be more to come. Here's the logo that inspired Marvel.

Of course, while it took Star Wars quite some time to actually do more, Marvel is in no such position. They have four more movies already on the release schedule and we know that they've got even more than that planned, even if we have no clue what those plans are at this point.

Listening to Kevin Feige talk, it's clear that Star Wars had a much larger influence on Marvel Studios than simply a logo. Feige grew up loving Star Wars and it was his desire to make movies like that which led him to Marvel. Now, both franchises are going strong and fans of both have a wealth of stories to watch. Van Helsings Showrunner Played A Crazy Death Prank On His Cast

Thanks to Peak TV there's been an abundance of onscreen deaths on programming ranging from zombie shows to tearjerker dramas. We see people die a lot on television these days, which means there are also a lot of conversations that have to happen behind the scenes between the showrunner and the actors who are about to lose their onscreen jobs. In the case of Van Helsing, creator Neil LaBute and cast member Aleks Paunovic have been in an epic prank war during the filming of the first three seasons of the Syfy series, but things bumped up a notch this season when LaBute decided to fake a script to the whole cast that indicated his character Julius was going to be killed off. At Comic-Con 2018, LaBute indicated he had the opportunity to pull off the perfect prank and he took it.

So, toward the end of the year, our last script was going to come out, and I realized that this was my perfect opportunity, so I told all the writers and just a couple of other people that I'm going to kill [Aleks' character] in the draft that we send out to everybody. And to not let anybody know. And so it landed on the weekend and I get this call in the evening; [he's] just slightly kind of panicky, but trying to sound like, 'This has been so much fun. I've had such a great time.'

If you've kept tabs on Van Helsing, you may already know that Aleks Paunovic and Neil LaBute get into these sort of prank wars all the time. They were actually started by Paunovic, who also admitted he once saw LaBute's directors chair, and made a video where he walked up and kicked it as a little bitty prank that ended up spawning a war. In the case of the epic death prank, Paunovic says that he was at home sick when he first read that he was being killed off on the series. (Again, he wasn't.)

Let me digress. I was sick and had a fever. I was hanging out at my buddy's house in L.A. I'm going to go out and get some groceries. I said, 'OK.' Let me just read this episode before we get back and go to the movies. I was like reading the episode [going], 'Oh my God, this is great, this is great. WHAT. The. Fuck. And so I started pacing around. I'm sweating even more now from the fever.

It would be one thing to play a little joke on the one actor, but Neil LaBute went all out for this epic prank. Not only did he send this fake script to the entire cast involved with the season finale, he also went a step further and talked to Aleks Paunovic, blaming the writers for sending the script before he had talked to him. He went on for 20 minutes before revealing the joke. If that were the end of the story, it would be an epic prank. As it stands, it's certainly one of the best pranks I've ever heard -- a prank the other members of the Van Helsing panel called "George Clooney-esque." But it didn't end there, because of course, the entire cast had been fooled, as well. Paunovic said while at the Van Helsing Comic-Con panel:

He's like stone cold, too. 'You know, you never know. You might come back. You know, we sometimes bring somebody in a flashback.' He's like, 'Yeah, totally.' The rest of the week, people are coming up to him because they all read he died. Because he didn't do a revision. He just let it hang for three, four days. So everyone's going, 'I'm so sorry.' I'm like, 'No, it was a joke.' They're going, 'Yeah. Right...' So that was the worst I've ever been gotten on a practical joke.

Van Helsing isn't exactly the type of series where all of the characters are safe at any given moment. There are plenty of deaths on the series, and even with the joke-y nature of the relationship between the show's creator and his favorite actor to prank, it's not hard to see why Aleks Paunovic was sweating bullets when he first saw the script. (Whether or not he was actually feverish.) Still, Julius will be back in Season 3, and we can't wait to see what other off-screen tricks are in store.

Van Helsing is going to premiere this fall in September or October--whenever the network decides to announce the official premiere, according to the cast. We'll keep you updated on any more news that drops about Season 3, but for now, I get the feeling Aleks Paunovic would appreciate any advice on how to top Neil Labute's truly epic prank.

An impressive all-star-led film about Roger Ailes, former chairman and CEO of Fox News, has been in development for a few months now, and in recent weeks it has been gearing up for the start of production. However, in a surprising turn of events, the film will now likely face delays, given that Annapurna Pictures has dropped the title.

The untitled Roger Ailes project, starring John Lithgow, Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman, and Margot Robbie, is currently without a studio, according to The Hollywood Reporter - which cites that the move may have been made because of the film's $35 million budget. That means that it is currently homeless, but that state may not last long. Filling the vacuum, BRON Studios, which has produced titles including Fences, The Birth of a Nation, and A Simple Favor, has signed on to co-finance the production, and Focus Features, Amblin and Participant Media are reportedly in talks to acquire the film.

The project about Fox News stars John Lithgow as the late Roger Ailes, who was tapped by media mogul Rupert Murdoch in 1996 to helm Fox News and Television. The executive was fired in 2016 by Murdoch after women, including television hosts Gretchen Carlson and Megyn Kelly, accused him of sexual misconduct in the workplace. Malcolm McDowell signed on to play Murdoch yesterday and Nicole Kidman and Charlize Theron have signed on to play Carlson and Kelly, respectively.

Margot Robbie is also set to star in the upcoming film as Kayla Pospisil, a fictional Fox associate producer. The film is being helmed by the director behind Trumbo, Austin Powers and Meet the Parents, Jay Roach, and the screenplay writer of The Big Short, Charles Randolph, is penning the script. Also featured in the star-studded main cast is Saturday Night Live's Kate McKinnon.

The film's female stars have each been starring in one impressive role after the other in recent years, and this project would surely continue the trend. Kidman is riding high this year thanks to her Golden Globe win earlier this year for Big Little Lies, and could be an Oscar contender with her mesmerizing transformation in the upcoming Destroyer. Robbie has disappeared in her recent roles as Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad, and pro ice skater Tonya Harding in I, Tonya, and will soon be seen in Mary Queen of Scots and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Theron, meanwhile, demonstrated her action chops in Atomic Blonde, and earlier this year earned rave reviews for her turn in Tully.

The Fox News project starring a talented ensemble cast currently does not have a release date, but that should change when the film finds a new production company/distributor. We'll continue to follow the development of this project as it continues.

After showing up for brief cameo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens that hung over fans for two years, Luke Skywalker made a comeback in The Last Jedi and gave quite the scene-stealing performance. In the film, Mark Hamill returned to the franchise as his most iconic role to teach Rey of the Jedi ways and showdown against Kylo Ren. Nut when Luke used the Force to project himself to Crait, it proved too great of a task as the Jedi Master disappeared into thin air, following the footsteps of Obi-Wan Kenobi. In light of Marvel's The Last Jedi comic book release, fans can now see Luke's final thoughts, adding a much more poetic moment to the character's abrupt death. Take a look:

Anyone else getting a little misty-eyed? The page was shared on Twitter by Marvel's The Last Jedi writer Gary Whitta to tease the comic release. The incredible artwork and color was penned by Michael Walsh and Mike Spicer adds a bit more depth to the scene from the 2017 film. As shown in the comic, after showing up Kylo Ren by declaring that he will not be the last Jedi, the toll of the Force catches up to him suddenly. Luke looks to the horizon on Ach-To, complete with a view of two suns, reminiscent of a memorable shot in A New Hope. When Luke began his hero's journey back on Tatooine, he looked at a similar view before joining Obi-Wan to save Princess Leia.

The elegant parallel signaling the end of Luke's mortal end was certainly present in the film but the inclusion of these words in the comic: "So it ends as it began. By the light of two suns. Before stepping into a larger world," it definitely hits the emotion of the scene in a way that the film didn't. Marvel's The Last Jedi six-issue series follows each of the installments novelizations. All of Disney's Star Wars releases have also received the Marvel comic book treatment, which allows for some expanded material to complement the film releases.

In a Star Wars film, when a Jedi dies it doesn't mean they are gone forever-- as it was seen at the end of A New Hope when Obi-Wan says encouraging words to Luke as he destroys the Death Star. And most recently in The Last Jedi, when Luke receives a visit from Yoda. Since Mark Hamill is confirmed to return for Episode IX, the Jedi Master's Force Ghost will likely grace the presence of Rey as strengthens her relationship with the Force and fights against Kylo Ren and the rest of the dark side. Star Wars: Episode IX filming is currently underway, and will be released to theaters on December 20, 2019.






The very last scene of the film felt out of place as well. Final Thoughts. Star Wars: The Last Jedi in a lot of ways tackles the franchise in a way that I've been hoping for.
