Picture having the opportunity to meet your greatest cinematic idol - in particular the director of your favorite film of all time. Now imagine that meeting being the opportunity for you to pitch said creator on a new film to continue the classic's legacy. That's exactly the scenario in which Halloween co-writer Danny McBride found himself in the making of the recent horror blockbuster, and while his concept eventually won out, he was seriously afraid of John Carpenter treating him like a young punk. McBride recently offered his account of the encounter, saying,

I dont think in my head I ever thought wed actually be able to make the film, so it became very real when we started walking up the front steps of John Carpenters office. I think I turned to David [Gordon Green], and it was just this panic moment of realization of like, 'Were about to meet John Carpenter, and one of our heroes of filmmaking could quite possibly laugh in our face.' And John just kind of said, Alright, lets hear it, and just wanted us to get down to business.

You could imagine the pressure on Danny McBride and Halloween co-writer/director David Gordon Green, as they were walking into a meeting with the man who created the epic horror that is Michael Myers. With a reputation for not suffering fools, John Carpenter can be intimidating to those who don't know what they're doing. Lucky for them, and the rest of the world, they knew exactly what they were doing.

As David Gordon Green explained to Vice during a paired interview with his fellow filmmaker, he and Danny McBride had a clear vision in mind when it came to the Halloween sequel they wanted to make. This was shown in their decision to ignore every single sequel in the series, as they wanted to be the only sequel to John Carpenter's 1978 original. Such a choice not only gave audiences something new and fresh to look forward to, it gave the series a new lease on life; one that Carpenter clearly appreciated, given his ultimate involvement with the project as a producer and composer. Considering his history with the franchise only extended to writing Halloween II and producing Halloween III: Season of the Witch, it's not a huge shocker that he was okay with the bulk of everything else being junked.

All it took to win over John Carpenter for Halloween's 2018 sequel was two things: a chance to indulge in his passion for music, via the film's score, and the opportunity to set the franchise's history straight. Danny McBride and David Gordon Green gave him both opportunities, and the rest is now noteworthy cinema history.

Whether any potential follow ups past this point will have that much luck remains unknown. But for now we at least have two Halloween films that John Carpenter personally approves of - both now available on home video for your personal enjoyment.

At the end of Shane Black's The Predator, the humans are in a lab examining the cargo retrieved from the Predator's ship. The cargo opens to reveal a piece of technology that attaches itself to a lab worker and creates a suit around him. This suit would seemingly give humanity technological hope against these extra-terrestrial threats. But in one of the alternate endings considered, the person wearing the Predator Killer would have been someone who knows a thing or two about killing aliens: the Alien franchise's Ripley. Take a look:

This alternate ending does not however mean that Sigourney Weaver could have been in the film. As Yuri Everson says, the actress who played Ripley was Breanna Watkins.

Although this didn't happen, you can imagine what a huge stinger it would have been for the end of the film. Seeing the Predator Killer suit was neat, and sets up possibilities for a sequel but just having the name "Ripley" on the person in the pod would have been a way to drop a few jaws before the credits rolled.

We don't know why Shane Black and company didn't go with the Ripley ending, as it would have been cool and still set up intriguing possibilities for humanity's hope in a potential sequel. However, it also might have been considered a bit too convoluted considering that Ripley is from over 100 years in the future, so to introduce a time travel head scratcher at the end might have been a bridge too far.

The other interesting thing here is that Yuri Everson said that the Ripley ending was one of three endings shot, along with the one that was used in the final film. That raises the obvious question of what was the third ending. Yuri says they were all three variations of the "Predator Killer," so does this mean that the third would have seen a different character wearing the tech, and if so who?

Thanks to the Aliens vs. Predator films in 2004 and 2007, the Alien and Predator franchises are linked and frequently compared. But in recent years these two sci-fi/horror franchises featuring iconic extra-terrestrial antagonists have done their own thing, Alien with Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, and Predator with 2018's The Predator. But it looks like there is still an inclination there to connect them.

As it stands we don't know what the future holds for Ripley or either franchise. Both of the most recent entries The Predator and Alien: Covenant underperformed commercially. And while there are supposedly sequel ideas out there for the latter, the future of the franchise will soon rest with Disney so much is likely up in the air at this point.

Who knew the perfect recipe for a truly amazing Spider-Man film was adding more spider-heroes? Sony Animation's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is not only being named the best Spider-Man film but also among the best films of the year. While it is just reaching its first weekend in theaters, the film has a near perfect Rotten Tomato score from critics and audiences alike... so why not get rolling on a sequel?

Following the early praise for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, it was already announced a couple weeks ago that Sony Animation is planning a sequel and a female-centered spinoff. Per a Vanity Fair interview with Sony chief Amy Pascal, the sequel will focus on Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy and a budding romance between the two spider-heroes from different universes.

As teased in the film's previews, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse centers on 13-year-old Miles Morales as he becomes Spider-Man, with the mentorship of crime-fighting veteran Peter Parker at his disposal. The pair are soon visited by additional spider-people -- including a 16-year-old Spider-Gwen, Spider-Ham, Spider-Man Noir, and Peni Parker.

Since Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy are nearly the same age, and share an origin story that have them suiting up into spider-heroes, it's no surprise the two hit it off. However, in the new release the pair become friends -- a move producer Christina Steinberg may have helped pushed for in service of the character's agency when first introduced to audiences.

A romantic storyline between Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen is canon in the comics in a 2017 issue titled "Sittin' in a Tree," so the decision to implement it into the animated sequel isn't too much of a surprise to fans. Phil Lord's original script for Into the Spider-Verse reportedly included a bit of their romantic storyline, but that was ultimately cut in service of taking time to introduce all the characters and to avoid overstuffing the story.

The Into the Spider-Verse sequel will be directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, best known for his work on The Legend of Korra and Voltron. David Callaham will be penning the script, amidst his already highly-anticipated screenplays for Wonder Woman 1984 and Zombieland 2, currently in production. The new Spider-Verse franchise is shared with the new Marvel live-action universe Sony has begun this year, notably with the huge success of Venom.

The comic book characters are each fairly new to Marvel -- as Miles Morales was introduced in 2011 and Spider-Gwen in 2014 -- but have been huge fan favorites among many comic book fans. We'll have to see just how moviegoers receive Into the Spider-Verse as it just swung into theaters last night. However, the flick has already cashed in $3.5 million, making it the tenth largest preview gross for an animated feature film to date.
