Zack Snyder's Response To Fans Wanting A Justice League Snyder Cut

Zack Snyder's Response To Fans Wanting A Justice League Snyder Cut

When it was announced that Zack Snyder would be holding a three-day event screening his director's cuts, and holding Q&A sessions, you knew it was coming. Someone was going to ask about The Snyder Cut for Justice League. In this case, they shouted about it, and Snyder didn't have much of a response -- other than to nod and drop a line about "subversion." Here's a transcript of the conversation, with a video below so you can hear for yourself:

Audience member: You probably have the most director's cuts out of most Hollywood directors, so congratulations on that, because that's...Zack Snyder: I don't know if that's a good thing or not.Audience member: No, well you definitely fight for your visions, and that's definitely inspiring to the artists that want to get out there, so, you know, hopefully that tradition continues on in the future.Zack Snyder: I hope so, too. [turns to Debbie Snyder] Is that right? Is it right to hope for that? I guess...Another audience member: Release the Snyder Cut![The audience applauds]Zack Snyder: [nods in acknowledgment] I see. Subversion. It's fine.

Some fans thought they heard him say "some version" instead of subversion, thinking he meant to release some version of Justice League. But it sounds like he was making a joke about fans being subversive, to undermine the authority of Warner Bros. and push for his director's cut on Justice League.

Here's a video from Twitter so you can watch and listen for yourself.

The "I hope so too" -- and the way he said it -- to me, that said the most. I'm kind of surprised he didn't take that moment to thank the passionate fans for pushing for his vision of Justice League. They are the ones that still tweet #ReleaseTheSnyderCut. The Justice League cast would like to see Snyder's intended director's cut too; Jason Momoa said he was obsessed with the Snyder Cut and wanted to see it.

Zack Snyder ended up stepping away (or was forced away) as the director of Justice League due to a personal family tragedy. Joss Whedon took over for reshoots, and a lot changed from what Snyder had envisioned for the film -- and pretty much negated what he had planned to do next. The resulting Justice League film made a decent amount of money ($657,924,295 worldwide) but it didn't really make anyone happy.

Recently, one of Zack Snyder's longtime collaborators, photographer Clay Enos, said what happened with Justice League would "go down in film history as some sort of terrible wrong that can be righted, creatively." He said we need a cultural shift that prioritizes auteur filmmaking from director's with a specific vision.

It does seem like Warner Bros./DC may have learned some lessons after the frustrations of Justice League. They found a hit with James Wan's $1 billion Aquaman and look to have a crowd-pleaser with Shazam! Word is, Warner Bros. is shying away from the shared universe to focus more on individual stories and director's visions. So some good seems to be coming out of the whole mess.

Simon Kinberg, the director of Dark Phoenix and writer of X-Men: Days of Future Past, says he knows how the two films connect to one another. Dark Phoenix is premiering next week, and as Fox's last X-Men film, it will likely tie in with the previous films in the franchise and bring closure to the entire 19-year-old story arc.

How Much Spider-Man: Far From Home Could Make In Its Opening Weekend

How Much Spider-Man: Far From Home Could Make In Its Opening Weekend

Warning: SPOILERS for Avengers: Endgame ahead!

Thanks to the heroic efforts of the Time Heist team in Avengers: Endgame, Peter Parker is back in the land of the living, albeit 5 years later, and ready for his next big screen adventure. That adventure comes in the form of this summers Spider-Man: Far From Home. The long-range tracking is in for the film, and Spider-Man: Far From Home could be looking at a domestic opening weekend box office as high as $120 million.

Spider-Man: Far From Home doesnt release until July, but the long-range tracking on the film from Box Office Pro sees it opening to between $90 million and $120 million over 3 days. Spideys Eurotrip actually opens on a Tuesday, right before Independence Day, so it should benefit from an extra-long opening weekend with people off for the holiday. The long-range tracking sees the film making between $190-$230 million over 6 days.

The 6-day opening has fewer comparisons, but a $90-$120 million 3-day opening weekend would be a solid debut for Tom Hollands sophomore solo effort. Spider-Man: Homecoming opened to $117 million in July of 2017, and if Far From Home comes in on the high end of the long-range tracking, it would match and possibly even exceed that by a bit.

A domestic opening weekend of $120 million would actually give Spider-Man: Far From Home the second-biggest opening of any Spider-Man film, surpassing Homecoming. The only film that would remain ahead of it based on the tracking would be 2007s Spider-Man 3, which opened to $151.1 million. So a $120 million opening would put Far From Home in the upper echelon of debuts for a superhero whose live-action big screen tenure has spanned 17 years and 3 iterations.

A $120 million opening would also put Spider-Man: Far From Home right in the neighborhood of Thor: Ragnarok, which opened to $122.7 million. If the film exceeds the high-end of the forecasts and makes over $128.1 million, it would beat Iron Man 2s opening to snag a spot in the top 10 MCU openings.

This tracking is long-range so it can still fluctuate in either direction as we get closer to release, but Spider-Man: Far From Home has a lot going for it, the most obvious thing being its proximity to Avengers: Endgame. That film just enjoyed the biggest opening weekend of all time, and that only bodes well for future MCU movies because audiences will want to hop right back in to this world.

So many people will want to know what happens next, and what the fallout of Avengers: Endgame is, and Spider-Man: Far From Home is positioned to take advantage of that -- with plenty of new questions, and intriguing new wrinkles like the multiverse. The film, which is the official end of Marvels Phase 3 and the Infinity Saga, is focusing heavily on that Endgame fallout and specifically Tony Starks death, which has a profound effect on Peter.

The first trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home set a record for number of views and Marvel has even started attaching the more recent trailer for Far From Home to the end of Endgame, letting all those moviegoers know what's next.

On the competition front, Spider-Man: Far From Home pretty much stands alone. June 21s Toy Story 4 will still be big and The Lion King doesnt come out for two and a half weeks after Spidey. That means this movie will be far and away the ticket to buy over the July 4th holiday weekend.

Spider-Man: Far From Home swings into theaters on July 2. Check out our 2019 Release Schedule to see all of this summers biggest movies.

Watch A Classic Beauty And The Beast Song Get Recorded In Vintage Disney Making Of Clip

Disney's Beauty and the Beast is one of the greatest animated films ever made. Now, a clip from a new documentary about one of the men responsible for that gives us a glimpse at the recording of one of the film's greatest moments. Don Hahn was a longtime producer at Walt Disney Animation behind some of the studio's greatest film during the renaissance period of the 1990s. Now, he is working on a documentary on the work of Howard Ashman, one of the musical minds behind films like The Little Mermaid and Aladdin. Now, check out a clip from the new documentary Howard which shows the lyricist working alongside Angela Lansbury and Jerry Orbach during the recording of the Disney classic "Be Our Guest."

For fans of the original Beauty and the Beast, this is a great peek behind the curtain at the making of the first animated movie to be nominated for Best Picture. The focus is on Howard Ashman, but we also get to see the great Jerry Orbach performing as Lumiere while Angela Landsbury sings the part of Mrs. Potts. One has to wonder if part of the reason the song turned out so well may have been that the two actors were actually performing together, something that rarely happens when recording for animation. And Orbach is especially is clearly "performing" as well as singing. You get the impression that he'd start dancing in the recording booth if he had the ability.

In addition to the two main vocalists, we also see that the music was recorded live as they sang, which is about as far from the norm as possible. The voiceover in the clip posted to Don Hahn's Vimeo page, from Beauty and the Beast director Kirk Wise, compares the recording of the music for Beauty and the Beast to that of recording a Broadway cast album.

Those early Disney Renaissance movies were, in many ways very much like Broadway musicals, even more so than their classic predecessors, and a large part of the reason for that was Howard Ashman. He had worked on Broadway for years before making the jump to the big screen to work with Disney. He first worked with the House of Mouse back in 1988 on the lyrics for one of the songs in Oliver and Company, but then went on to write songs for The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin, receiving Oscar nominations for all three movies, and awards for the first two.

Unfortunately, Howard Ashman was only ever able to accept one Oscar, as he passed away in 1991, prior to the release of Beauty and the Beast.

Howard will debut at the Tribeca Film Festival later this month.
