Rogue Ones Original Opening Crawl Had A Cool Connection To Star Wars: A New Hope
The Star Wars franchise is slowly but surely figuring out its standalone movie format, which included decisions like omitting the traditional opening exposition crawl from Gareth Edwards' Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. However, the film actually did feature a crawl at one point. In fact, not only did Rogue One: A Star Wars Story have an opening crawl, but screenwriter Gary Whitta recently took to social media and revealed that his crawl specifically had the exact same number of words as A New Hope's crawl. Whitta wrote:
I did write a crawl, and I remember thinking it was neat that it was the same number of words as the one in A New Hope. This was before the (correct) decision not to have opening crawls for the standalones.
It's the little details like that that make the Star Wars franchise so interesting. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story had a crawl in the earliest stages of the script's development, and per Gary Whitta' recent tweet, we now know that it would've been structurally identical to that of A New Hope's opening crawl by featuring 83 words.
In the end, the decision was made to move away from the traditional opening craw that has become so iconic in the main saga film. This helped give Rogue One: A Star Wars Story its own flavor compared to movies like The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, and Gary Whitta now believes that the decision to omit the opening crawl turned out to be the right one in the end.
This decision makes sense, as there's a case to be made that Rogue One never needed a crawl in the first place. It's one of the only Star Wars movies to feature a substantial time jump, with the opening movie serving as a prologue to set up the Jyn Erso Death Star story. In essence, that sequence where Saw Gerrera finds her IS the opening crawl.
That said, the Star Wars franchise is still learning how to structure its spinoff properties, as Solo: A Star Wars Story did something decidedly different from Rogue One. Instead of opening straight into the action, Ron Howard' recent Han Solo-focused prequel featured a much briefer opening text that simply faded in to get audiences up-to-speed on Han's life on Corellia. With other spinoff films currently in development at Disney and Lucasfilm, it will be worth keeping an eye out to see how the franchise changes its structure and moves in new directions.
It will be interesting to see how the Star Wars franchise evolves its format at Lucasfilm becomes more comfortable with the spinoff movies. Until then, make sure to watch out for J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode IX (which will almost certainly have a crawl) next year on December 20, 2019!

Ryan Coogler's Black Panther is an absolutely massive movie, not only introducing audiences to the stunning new cinematic world of Wakanda, but telling the story with a remarkable ensemble of actors. For all of those involved it was a massive undertaking, and was surely a stressful endeavor at times -- but they did occasionally find ways to lighten the atmosphere. For example, as I recently learned while sitting down with stars Lupita Nyong'o and Danai Gurira, there was a very special moment on set that involved a group of drummers, an awesome Snoop Dogg track, and some fun, spontaneous dancing:

I learned about this fantastic behind-the-scenes story last week when I had the pleasure of sitting down with Lupita Nyong'o and Danai Gurira during the Black Panther press day in Los Angeles. Throughout the day I was asking all of the film's stars about actors that they would love to see join the world of Wakanda, and it was in response to that question that Nyong'o and Gurira told me about the influence of Snoop Dogg, and the very special moment on set that had everybody in a similar headspace.
The Warrior Falls sequence that is referred to takes place towards the start of Black Panther, when T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman) is in the process of his coronation. In order to earn the crown he must face any challengers in ritual combat, and the fight is a big event -- collecting the various tribes of the nation at the country's grandest waterfall. The event is filled with music and dancing - all of it traditional instead of pop -- but apparently the folks with the drums decided to have a bit of fun with their instruments between takes, and it wound up creating a very special on-set moment

How The Spider-Man: Far From Home Trailer Is Keeping Us In The Dark About Its Timeline
Marvel has become increasingly sneaky and deceptive with its trailers of late, misdirecting us with shots not in the movie and manipulating shots so that we can't glean too much information about the film before we see it. This trend continues with the new trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home. Despite showing us multiple suits, Nick Fury and a fishbowl-wearing Mysterio, the trailer cleverly keeps us in the dark about the biggest question we have: the timeline. Take a look.
If you look closely, you can see that this shot of Peter Parker's passport is missing one key detail: what year it was issued. The passport was issued on July 19, but it doesn't say what year. The year the passport expires is also removed, so we can't work backwards and subtract the either 5 or 10 years (depending on his age at the time of issue) passports last to find out when it was issued, and thus when Spider-Man: Far From Home takes place.
This wouldn't matter as much if we had seen Peter Parker get his passport in Spider-Man: Homecoming, but because we see in the trailer that he gets it in this film before his European vacation, that date could be very revealing about the timeline in Far From Home.
The timeline of Spider-Man: Far From Home is of particular interest because when we last saw Peter Parker in the MCU, he wasn't feeling so well as he turned to dust in Tony Stark's arms due to The Decimation committed by Thanos. Just the fact that Spider-Man: Far From Home was announced could be considered spoilerish, even though we all assume that Peter Parker and the other snapped characters are returning.
Kevin Feige has said in the past that Spider-Man: Far From Home would pick up only a few minutes after the end of Avengers: Endgame, where we all assume the snap will be undone. That would explain Peter Parker being alive here. It does make you wonder though, with those comments and everyone assuming that the Snap will be undone, why bother hiding the date if it takes place post-Avengers: Endgame? Just to fuel fan speculation perhaps?
However, we don't know the exact timeline of Avengers: Endgame or Phase 4 either and whether everything is just reset or what. So keeping the timeline of Spider-Man: Far From Home hidden protects that film's secrets as well.
Another possibility is that despite what has been said in the past about when this film takes place, keeping us in the dark about the Far From Home timeline still allows for it to be set after Spider-Man: Homecoming, but before the events of Avengers: Infinity War. Yet, if that were the case, you would think that they wouldn't hide it. Telling us that it's in the past would allow Marvel to keep up the pretense that Spidey is still dead in the present and may remain so.
We also see Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury in this trailer, but his appearance provides no obvious clues about when this movie takes place. They could have met post-Homecoming and pre-Infinity War, or during Endgame, but that history was erased. Basically we don't know anything at the moment.
